by Nicholas | Interesting. According to The Telegraph, senior Democratic advisers are concerned that the Obama campaign doesn't have the political know-how to make "No McCain Nohow" a reality.
A senior Democratic strategist, who has played a prominent role in two presidential campaigns, told The Sunday Telegraph: "These guys are on the verge of blowing the greatest gimme in the history of American politics. They're the most arrogant bunch Ive ever seen. They won't accept that they are losing and they won't listen." (The Telegraph)
Damozel has recently raised this point. Is hubris blinding Obama's handlers to their candidate's interests?
Mr Plouffe's dismissal of Democratic doubts as hand-wringing and bed-wetting only served to reinforce the growing doubts about what some see as a bunker mentality among Obamas inner circle - where outside advice, even from highly experienced people, is not welcomed.
The Democratic strategist told The Sunday Telegraph: "They think they know best. They don't return calls. There are governors and senators calling them up with ideas. They don't get back to them.
"These are senior people from the border states and the South who know how to beat Republicans, and they're being ignored. They ignored everyone during the primaries and they came through it, so they think they can do the same again." (The Telegraph)
But...has the Obama campaign got a Cunning Plan?
Are they following a strategy of playing "possum", and not only with respect to their fund-raising? Because Bloomberg seems to infer---and to imply in its piece--- that they are most definitely playing it a bit coy about the state of his funding.
The Illinois senator's campaign hasn't done much to refute the notion its financial edge may be shrinking. So far, though, Obama's aides privately say they're keeping a low profile so donors don't get complacent, suggesting that August contributions -- to be disclosed next week -- will top February's one-month record of $55 million. And Palin, while energizing Republicans, has also motivated Democratic donors.
Less than two months before Election Day, money raised from this point comes on top of millions of dollars Obama has already spent to train staff and open offices in competitive states -- building a more extensive operation than McCain and Republicans have been able to put together so far.(Bloomberg.com)
Aha! According to Plouffe there is a Plan.
His campaign raised $10 million on Sept. 4, the day after Palin addressed the Republican nominating convention, for its biggest one-day haul of the campaign.
``We had a terrific summer,'' said Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe. ``We always knew the Republicans would do well financially. They always do. Our imperative is to just make sure that we raise what we need to execute our plan.'' (Bloomberg.com; emphasis added)
You see? They've got an Imperative and a Plan.
I trust that they are waiting till the right moment to unveil it---clearly, there's little sign of it yet. It's the rest of the world's only hope, in fact.
