by Blue Stockings | I don't give a damn whether Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant or not. That's her business. I just don't care---except in this one context. Michelle Cottle writes:
I'm sorry, but a politician who opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest and who opposes comprehensive sex education should be at the forefront of championing support systems that make it easier for young mothers to keep their babies. (The Plank)
Yes, that's the nub of it all right. Once again, we see in action
that well known Republican trait: indifference to the subsequent
plight of those whom they wish to force into motherhood---not to
mention the resultant babies. Republicans like Palin truly love the
unborn---it's actual babies they don't seem to give a damn about. Too
many unwed mothers? Let 'em abstain or take the consequences. Then,
of course, the babies take the consequences.
Babies---and there are many--- who are deprived of sufficient
support, incentives, guidance, family structure during their formative
years etc., etc. tend to give us our criminal classes: fodder for law
and order Republicans who acknowledge no responsibility in the broader
community for the suffering of others, including the children of
poverty or its consequences. It makes me sick.
