Herbert is the only columnist in the mainstream press consistently reporting about the stark reality of our failure to provide the basics for a huge swath of our population.
If America is to seize the new year with vigor, we need to come to grips with the facts about our economy. We've had zero job growth in the last decade. Our industrial base has eroded to little more than a shell of its former greatness. We don't have a program to change this situation. And now, one in four American children are fed with the assistance of Food Stamps.
