by Damozel | Apparently the White House staff were as surprised as anyone.
"Two key White House aides were both convinced they were being punked when they heard the news, reported ABC News' George Stephanopoulos .""It's not April 1, is it?" one said.
"Upon being called by ABC News at 5:45 ET this morning, a White House aide said, "This better be good."
"When told by ABC News that the president had won the Nobel Peace Prize, the aide replied: "Oh, that is good.""(Huff Post)

The consensus view-- which I share -- is that it's a bit damn previous. On the other hand, anything that upsets the denizens of Greater Wingnuttia as much as this is going to do is pure bonus, so there's that. In short: Mwahahahahahahha!

The nomination was made 11 days into his presidency. To say it's premature is a gross understatement. TR at least brokered the peace treaty between the Japanese and Russians that ended the Russo-Japanese War (although in hindsight it also planted seeds of resentment with the Japanese that culminated with the bombing of Pearl Harbor) before he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

And on a related note, the Nobel Committee had decreed that, for similar mass appeal and intent to do well, the Dallas Cowboys will be awarded the Superbowl Championship in Miami, in February, no matter who actually plays in the game. Also, all medals from all events, male and female, in the 2012 London Olympics go to Obama, too.
