by Damozel | Or, as Jesse Taylor puts it, Idiot has Self Waterboarded to Prove Torture is Torture. When will they ever learn, eh? When?
How did the radio host, Mancow, find the aforesaid torture? "Way worse than I thought it would be," he admitted. Yes, that's torture for you: always way worse than you expect. Hitch, as you'll remember, said it better: ""[I]f waterboarding does not constitute torture, then there is no such thing as torture. NBC Chicago reports:
"I want to find out if it's torture," Mancow told his listeners Friday morning, adding that he hoped his on-air test would help prove that waterboarding did not, in fact, constitute torture....
"The average person can take this for 14 seconds," Marine Sergeant Clay South answered, adding, "He's going to wiggle, he's going to scream, he's going to wish he never did this."....
Which is pretty much what he said afterward:
"It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke,"Mancow said, likening it to a time when he nearly drowned as a child. "It is such an odd feeling to have water poured down your nose with your head back...It was instantaneous...and I don't want to say this: absolutely torture." [More at nbc Chicago]
So. Good for him, I guess, if that's what it took. If one is unable to learn by other methods, one should always try experience. Now I want every right-wing blowhard who says it isn't torture, including the women, to volunteer for a similar experience. Till they've put their snouts where their mouths are, I don't want to hear another word from any of them.
Mancow: ""I wanted to prove it wasn't torture....They cut off our heads, we put water on their face...I really thought 'I'm going to laugh this off.'
After it was all over: "If I knew....I wouldn't have," he conceded. Gah.
You know, there's a reason that progressives generally have a low opinion of the common sense and fundamental intelligence of the current so-called "Right." They're always so, so wrong. You can't blame us for rolling our eyes a bit that this is what it takes for one of them to learn what pretty much all the actual experts agree on: it is torture. Apparently, it takes torture to get them to admit it. Sad.
Jesse Taylor, reflecting on Mancow's pre-torture attitude, muses:
"Hannity, you're next," Taylor Marsh remarks tersely. Jed Lewison too is paging Sean Hannity. Ha ha ha ha! That'll be the day. At the Brad Blog, Brad Friedman writes:
Meanwhile, the conservatives are working overtime to find new ways to deny reality. "It’s not torture because Mancow is a scrawny wimp. I’m sure that conservatives are on their way to kick sand in his face as we speak," says Jesse Taylor.
Yeah? No. Not so fast, wingnuts. Waterboard first, sand-kicking afterward. But wait! "Next up: a couple of weeks naked in a cold cell in stress positions with sleep deprivation. Any takers?" Sullivan deadpans.
Meanwhile, former SEAL Jesse Ventura offers to waterboard Hannity till he says Obama is the best president EVER.
