by Damozel | The delightfully risible Politico piece -- which has Cantor promising to get back to Obama about GOP wishes for a budget cut -- is here. John Cole nails it all here.
When asked for a budget with numbers, the Republicans said “We’ll get back to you.”
When asked for their plans for health care, the Republicans said “We’ll get back to you.”
When asked for their plans on energy independence, the Republicans said “Drill, baby drill and we’ll get back to you.”
When asked for their plans to revive the economy, the Republicans said “Tax cuts and we’ll get back to you.”
And now, after bitching about the most bloatedest budget proposal evah, after months of masturbatory tea parties and chants of porkulus, when asked what cuts the Republicans would like to make, the answer, as always, is “We’ll get back to you.”
The answer, as always, is, "Plan? What plan? It's just the party's policy."
Here's a hilarious excerpt from the story:
House Republican Whip Eric Cantor returned from spring break determined to shed the “Dr. No” tag Democrats have hung around his neck — only to find himself in a face-to-face argument with the president over who started this year’s rift with the House GOP.
Early last week, Cantor talked like a man ready to make amends for the unanimous Republican “no” votes on President Barack Obama’s budget and economic stimulus plan....But headed for a meeting with the president at the White House Thursday, Cantor and other House Republican leaders couldn’t resist picking at the scab. They sent Obama a letter praising him for his “common-sense idea” that “Washington can work together for the American people instead of for political parties” — but also claiming that Democratic leaders in Congress had “ignored your call for a new era of bipartisanship in Washington.”
That’s what started the face-to-face bickering with the president.....Cantor suggested that if he were to view the stimulus negotiations through a partisan lens, he would argue Democrats started the “party of no” name-calling about the same time that Obama was meeting with House Republicans to discuss the stimulus plan.
Cole's piece is the punch line.
Meanwhile, John Nichols at The Nation will be glad to explain to you exactly how the Know Nothing Party fought against preparedness for a potential pandemic. Have they completely lost the plot? Under W., they pissed away tax dollars without a second thought on a war Bush & Co. lied to get us into; under Obama, they seem to have forgotten that the money is supposed to be for things the nation needs.
