by Deb Cupples | A St. Pete Times blog reports that Jeb Bush has decided to not run for Mel Martinez's U.S. Senate seat:
After all the criticism fired at Jeb over the last few weeks, I suspect that millions of people breathed a sigh of relief when hearing that he is backing off.
My reaction: maybe Jeb won't run for Martinez's seat, and maybe he will.
What's to stop Jeb from changing his mind some months from now? It's not like he could get sued for doing so. That and, given his family and corporate connections, Jeb wouldn't need a ton of time to raise enough cash for a U.S. Senate campaign in Florida.
I'm not saying that it will happen, but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Jeb were to disappear from the spotlight for a while, then suddenly reappear -- say, in January 2010 or so -- publicly proclaiming that it's his duty to step up, make a sacrifice, and help repair the damage that all those Washington Dems have inflicted on the nation since January 2009.
Yes, I understand that the Dems are inheriting numerous problems that Jeb's own brother helped create. But a year from now, after Jeb and his brother have been out of the spotlight, Republicans likely will forget recent history and start blaming the Dems.
