Yesterday afternoon, an airplane leaving LaGuardia airport in Manhattan landed in the Hudson River after birds had reportedly been sucked into one or two of the plane's engines. CNN reported later that all 155 passengers were alive and that 15 or so were being treated for injuries.
A witness who saw the plane go into the river from his office building commented: "'If someone's going to land a plane in the water, this seemed the best possible way to do it. The way they hit it was very gradual. A very slow contact with the water.'"
