by Deb Cupples | Yesterday, according to the New York Times, Caroline Kennedy withdrew her name from consideration as a replacement for Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate: she cited concern for her uncle's health as the reason.
The New York Post tells a slightly different story:
"Caroline Kennedy tonight withdrew her name from consideration to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate after learning that Gov. David Paterson wasn't going to choose her, The Post has learned....
"Sources said the reason Paterson had decided not to tap the
daughter of John F. Kennedy was her poor performances in media
interviews and in in private sessions with various officials."
"Aides to Kennedy couldn't be reached for comment. (NY Post)
Ms. Kennedy certainly had success during her recent involvement in national politics, and she seems to have something to offer in the realm of public service. It would be a shame if she were to simply withdraw back into private life permanently.
I hope that she'll run for state legislature in the future -- of for some position that will give her experience as an elected public official. Memeorandum has commentary.

Sources cited Carrie's poor, y'know, performances in, y'know, media interviews and in private, y'know, sessions with, um, various officials...
But what should any of that matter? Here's 'Bammy, in Bristol, Virginia, in June, when his teleprompter failed:
" What they’ll say is, “Well it costs too much money,” but you know what? It would cost, about… It — it — it would cost about the same as what we would spend… It… Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us… (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We’re going to… It… It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about — hold on one second. I can’t hear myself. But I’m glad you’re fired up, though. I’m glad.
...Everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early and they got some treatment, and a, a breathalyzer, or inhalator, not a breathalyzer. (crowd laughing) I haven’t had much sleep in the last 48 hours."
Not much sleep in the last coupla days, eh? Well, now that he's President, I hope Rammie and Hillie make sure he always takes his widdle nap after storyhour.
