by Deb Cupples | Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died yesterday at her home in Hawaii after battling cancer. She was 86. Ms. Dunham had helped rear Sen. Obama. Our condolences to Sen. Obama and to Ms. Dunham's other family members and friends.
While Ms. Dunham lay dying, representatives of the Republican party prepared to file a complaint against Sen. Obama regarding his trip last month to see his grandmother in Hawaii.
Huffington Post tells us:
"... the visit itself is not being criticized, but rather the way the campaign paid for the nominee's unscheduled detour. On Monday afternoon, the RNC blasted out a complaint from the California Republican Party charging that 'Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama's personal use' for the trip. That proposed issue for the FEC to investigate is one of five violations alleged by California Republicans in their complaint (which you can read in its entirety here)."
That sure does make the Republicans look insensitive and mean spirited.
I doubt they would have included that count in the complaint if they'd had any idea that Ms. Dunham would actually die on Monday, but I cannot help but chuckle about their timing.
Fate can be such a dirty-trickster.
Memeorandum has commentary.

You forgot the fact that they wrecked the FEC. There is no functioning Commission to accept the complaint.
