Attorney General Michael Mukasey Collapses During a Speech

by Damozel |  He collapsed during a speech to The Federalist Society, according to TPM.  It sounds as if he might have had a stroke, although there are apparently no current updates.  From The Politico:

Witnesses said Mukasey, 67, was conscious as he was taken from the Marriott Wardman Park hotel to George Washington University Hospital. CBS News reported that the attorney general began slurring his words about 15 or 20 minutes into a speech touching on Bush administration successes in the war on terrorism. His federal detail attended to him until medical personnel arrived.

Audience members said they began praying, fearing a stroke.

It really does sound like it.

An FBI official said Mukasey got stuck on a word during his speech to the conservative legal group, repeated it several times and then "went down hard."

A senior law-enforcement said Mukasey appeared to be talking when he was taken away. That official also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation.

He was conscious during part of the ambulance ride to hospital, the official said.  (Video Cafe)

If in fact this is the case, it sounds as if he might not have had too bad a bout of it.

“The Attorney General is conscious, conversant and alert. His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits. He is receiving excellent care and appreciates all of the good wishes and prayers he has received. The doctors will keep him overnight for further observations.

“We will update the public when we have additional information.”  (The Politico)

 Naturally we wish him the best and hope he will quickly recover.
