TPM reports:
Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.
Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger...
A second worker at the call center confirmed the episode, saying that "at least 30" workers had walked out after refusing to read the script.
"We were asked to read something saying [Obama and Democrats] were against protecting children from danger," this worker said. "I wouldn't do it. A lot of people left. They thought it was disgusting." (TPM)
Michael Stickings comments:
Those 40 people or so deserve our admiration and applause. They knew a vicious, dirty smear when they read it, and were told to repeat it, and gave up some of their pay, at what is surely low-paying work, every last hard-earned cent of which is no doubt important to them.
They didn't have to do it, and it was not without risk, but they took a firm stand for decency and for their own integrity. Good for them.
Comments from Left Field says:
What’s perhaps even more significant is the message it sends out. Think about it for a second, we’re getting lots of reports of people who are so disgusted with McCain’s final argument in this election that they are not even willing to accept pay to help him peddle it. That in and of itself is a profound statement.
TPM has the script of one of the McCain campaign's disgusting robo-calls:
There was one starring Rudy Giuliani, who suggested that Obama opposes jailing murderers and rapists. And there was a second hitting Obama over the "bitter" comments.
In other words, another huge wave of McCain robo-slime has been unleashed. (TPM)
Wonkette says:
This one made us laugh out loud for the sole reason that it’s from Rudy Giuliani, and he says, among other things: “You need to know that Barack Obama opposes mandatory prison sentences for sex offenders, drug dealers and murderers. It’s true, I read Barack Obama’s words myself.” Since when can Rudy Giuluani read words? Ha ha, GOOD GOD. Can you imagine answering your phone only to hear this failed stupid fucking idiot say crap about anyone, based on what he “read himself”?
If he wins by these means, what will he have won?

Money isn't everything after all. Those 30 or so people should be commended for "standing their ground". They may have lost a day worth of money but they've gained truckloads of respect and admiration.
I salute you all...
