by Deb Cupples | CNN reports:
"Scott McClellan, the former White House press secretary who sharply criticized President Bush in his memoir last spring, told CNN Thursday he's voting for Barack Obama."
"'From the very beginning I have said I am going to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done and I will be voting for Barack Obama and clapping,' McClellan told new CNN Host D.L. Hughley." (CNN)
As you may remember, Mr. McClellan wrote a book (which came out earlier this year) that had some scathing accounts of what had gone on behind the scenes at the White House back when McClellan was the press secretary. Here's an example, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"'Bush and his advisers knew that the American people would almost certainly not support a war launched primarily for the ambitions purpose of transforming the Middle East,' McClellan wrote.
"'Rather than open this Pandora's Box, the administration chose a different path — not employing out-and-out deception, but shading the truth,' he wrote of the effort to convince the world that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, an effort he said used "innuendo and implication" and "intentional ignoring of intelligence to the contrary."
"'President Bush managed the crisis in a way that almost guaranteed that the use of force would become the only feasible option,' McClellan concluded, noting, 'The lack of candor underlying the campaign for war would severely undermine the president's entire second term in office."
In short, guy who followed Bush to Washington and used to be quite loyal ends up writing a scathing critique of the Bush Administration, then he essentially abandons the Republican party by deciding to publicly support Barack Obama.
