by Deb Cupples | This is interesting. Reuters reports:
"An al Qaeda leader has called for President George W. Bush and the Republicans to be 'humiliated,' without endorsing a party in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, according to an Internet video posting.
"'O God, humiliate Bush and his party, O Lord of the Worlds, degrade and defy him' Abu Yahya al-Libi said at the end of sermon marking the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr, in a video posted on the Internet."
If this is true, the Al Qaeda folks will just have to stand in line -- given that most Americans are thoroughly disgusted with George Bush and Republicans in general.
Why wouldn't we be disgusted?
The Bush Administration misled us taxpayers into a war that has cost thousands of American lives and about half a trillion dollars (so far). The Bush Adminsitration repeatedly went slack on corporate regulation, a move that seems to have helped lead our nation's economy into the miserable state that we now find it.
Most of us ordinary folks have no clue what our future holds, given that jobs continue to disappear, houses continue to be foreclosed on, and health care continues to be beyond the reach of tens of millions of Americans.
It's only fair that the Al Qaeda folks wait patiently while we ordinary Americans take a shot at humiliating President Bush and his Republican allies. Unless there's another round of "election irregularities" (a la 2000 and 2004), I suspect that D-Day for Project Humiliation is on November 4.
All that said, I wonder if the Al Qaeda folks really did publicly state a desire to humiliate Bush and the Republicans. Just a few weeks ago, the British press reported that Al Qaeda had publicly endorsed John McCain.
Are the Al Qaeda folks fickle, or is the press mis-reporting their statements?
