by Damozel | Hard as it is to believe, this really was supposed to be a press briefing about Hurricane Gustave. This is just amazing. Listen to his tone when he speaks about the hurricane---he gets that out of the way with a quickness. Then he switches to talking about offshore drilling. Joe Scarborough takes the piss afterward, though he finds it a lot funnier than I do. That's probably because Deb and I have been tracking the continuing stories of his failures on Katrina.
As for Bush, he just doesn't care. He's not even pretending.
Deb's most recent post is called "Gustav had mercy on New Orleans." Thank God for that because Bush never has and never would. It's so very clear.
Read a transcript at Crooks and Liars. The White House site just comes right out and says it:"President Bush Participates in Briefing on Hurricane Gustav, Discusses Energy." Yep.
From Think Progress:
Reacting to Bush’s statement on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman (D) called Bush’s statement “the worst pivot ever,” questioning “how you go from hurricane to offshore drilling.”
Let's all join Harry Shearer (as W) in a chorus of that R&B hit, "Addicted to Oil" ("cause I'm an OIL MAN...."). Why do people forget that? It's a mystery.
Well, at least he's given up on even the appearance of seemly concern. As far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. At least gullible people won't be fooled into thinking he cares about the human factor.
Or you might want to join in with this poignant melody:
