David Brooks in a Nutshell:
The Education of McCain
Because Barack Obama refused to meet him at town halls, John McCain, the lovable maverick, has been forced against his wish to run a nasty, mud-slinging, no-holds-barred campaign. Fortunately, it seems to be working.
Bill Kristol in a Nutshell
Showdown at Saddleback
On Saturday night, while people who are not neocons were out having fun, I watched two candidates for the presidency of the US pander to to the evangelical segment of the far right. As a neocon, I am happy to say that when it came to responding to a number of irrational loaded questions designed to test the relative appeal of the candidates to the End Times branch of the far right, the GOP candidate, John McCain was the clear victor.
That's why I'm grinning so hard you can see my molars.
Jonah Goldberg in a Nutshell (The Corner at National Review Online)
Say, have any of you other Corner guys ever noticed how people of like tendencies tend to hang out together? And how if you put the less obnoxious, superficially reasonable ones together with one obnoxious, over-the-top, offensive blowhard, it makes them all look like really obnoxious, over-the-top, offensive blowhards?
What?
Byron York in a Nutshell (The Corner at National Review Online)
Ding ding ding! Latest gossip about fallen Dem John Edwards, who is not running for president! You won't want to miss this!
Rush Limbaugh in a Nutshell [*This is not a "shorter"; it is a literal quotation]
"I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy....[T]his is a classic illustration here where affirmative action has reared its ugly head again....They've...ended up nominating and placing at the top of their ticket somebody who's not qualified, who has not earned it.
It's perfect affirmative action. And because of all this guilt and the historic nature of things, nobody had the guts to say, well, wait a minute, do we really want to do this?"

Procrustean Thinker & Libertarian Meagan McArdle in a Nutshell
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a person!
While I and other non-black people of the 21st Century realize that
black people, who in slave days were not considered persons, are in
fact persons, many or most pro-choicers do not concede, that fetuses,
which in earlier ages were not considered persons, might in fact be
persons. Pro-choicers, unlike former slave owners, base their denial
of personhood on conclusions drawn from current science rather than on
speculation about currently unknown future science. How will they feel
if in 100 years science proves them wrong?
While none of this is likely or makes much sense even to me, it's something to think about. Carry on!
