Posted by Damozel | I'm not that fond of at all fond of Keith Olberman and I haven't forgotten his really vile misogynistic treatment of Hillary Clinton---though I can see the point of him if I think of his show as a really well-produced and often useful vlog rather than news. But never mind that; this special comment is a pretty good summary of certain recent events, as well as McCain's voting record on bills affecting the troops or vets.
I could have done without his crack about Clinton supporters, but...whatever. It isn't news or journalism---you can read most of what's said here right in the blogosphere---but it's pulled altogether here, and some of it's important. .
Crooks and Liars has the full transcript. Here's one part that I think is particularly important:
Via C&L, McCain's anti-troop votes cited by Olbermann.
....Senator McCain missed 10 of the 14 Senate votes on Iraq up to the middle of last year.
This year, he has missed them **all** — including one to honor the sacrifice of the fallen.
He has voted to table or oppose:
20 million dollars for veteran’s health care facilities.
322 million dollars for safety equipment for our troops in Iraq.
430 million dollars for veterans outpatient care.
One billion dollars in new equipment for the National Guard.
And, in separate votes: One billion, 500 million dollars in additional Veterans’ medical care, to be created by closing tax loopholes.
And one billion, **800** million dollars in additional Veterans’ medical care, to be created by closing tax loopholes.
And yet, Sir, you have the audacity to stand in front of the very Veterans you repeatedly and consistently **sell out**, and claim it is your **opponent** who has put politics first, and country second.
He also discusses McCain's opposition to the GI Bill we posted about here.
