Teh Nutroots | You can read the candidates' discussion here. This just pisses me off:
McCain then goes on to accuse Obama of flip-flopping on dipping into the nation's strategic oil reserve, of sort-of reversing course on offshore drilling, and of not supporting any serious solutions.
"First there was his call for Americans to check their tires -- which is commonsense advice, but hardly has the makings of a national energy strategy. If we can't drill our way out of the problem, it seems even more unlikely that we can inflate our way out of it."
"A serious energy plan involves a lot more yes's than no's," McCain argues, plugging his proposals for more offshore drilling, nuclear power, clean coal, and renewable sources. (Boston News)
Either this is an outright, deliberate lie or McCain really hasn't noticed that Obama has put forth a comprehensive energy plan that has received praise from environmentalists and that takes a broad, long-term approach to the problem.
Not to mention that the argument, "If we can't drill our way out of the problem, we can't inflate our way out of it either" boils down to "There's no way out."
Jon Stewart pointed out the other day that the Republicans have reframed the time it will take for drilling to affect gas pump prices so many times that we've practically reached the point of "Offshore drilling solved our problems yesterday."
