by Deb Cupples | It's been evident for some time that the Chinese government is not sympathetic to the people of Tibet. On occasion, the Chinese government has been more than a tad hostile toward protesters and dissidents: hostile, at times, to the point of shooting real bullets at protesters.
That said, the International Herald Tribune reports:
"Six foreigners - all Americans - who were taken into custody Tuesday as they tried to protest China's rule in Tibet have been given 10-day detentions, the Chinese police said Friday.
"But members of their organization, Students for a Free Tibet, based in New York, said they had no information about four other protesters - two Americans, a German and a Briton - who were detained early Thursday during a protest near the National Stadium.
"Extrajudicial detentions are a common punishment for Chinese dissidents, but are rarely handed out to foreigners, who are often deported almost immediately after being taken into custody."
Oh dear. You can see the rest of the IHT story here.
