by Deb Cupples | My co-blogger Damozel is right: some Obama supporters need to grow up. Below you can watch Michigan's Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm get booed for merely mentioning Hillary Clinton's name at an Obama rally on Monday -- though Grahnolm was there to endorse Obama.
The well-mannered crowd also booed Al Gore when he urged Obama's supporters to show respect to John McCain, according to the Washington Post. When Obama spoke, he reprimanded the crowd and said:
"'I want everybody here to be absolutely clear,' Obama said. 'Senator Clinton is one of the finest public servants we have in American life today. ...She is worthy of our respect. She is worthy of our honor. She is going to be at the forefront of bringing about change.'" (WaPo)
That's a tough sell for a crowd that Obama and his campaign operatives had spent months convincing that Hillary is The Enemy.
At least twice during the primaries (March 5 and April 14), Obama and campaign staffer David Plouffe sent emails to God-knows-how-many supporters stating that Hillary was attacking said supporters.
The Randi Rhodes (Hillary's a f*cking whore) and Samantha Power (Hillary's a monster) comments -- along with the booing by Monday's crowd -- suggest that high ranking Obama campaign officials did very little to discourage hateful bellicosity among supporters.
And now, supporters are supposed to do an about-face and embrace Hillary?
I supposed with some training, they could learn to refrain from booing and hissing whenever they hear her name, but is it likely that they will actually feel any respect for her?
Interestingly enough, the Obama supporters' reaction on Monday was quite the opposite of most of Hillary's audience when she gave her Obama-endorsement speech. Most of the latter crowd actually applauded -- many did so enthusiastically.
