by Damozel | The proposed Constitutional amendment, designed to ban gay marriage in the US, provides in pertinent part:
Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.’ (via The Carpetbagger Report)
And included among the sponsors are those sterling examples of marital rectitude as envisioned within the GOP, Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter. Who better to take a stand for the supposed sanctity of confining a state license for cohabitation to one man and one woman? If you don't remember and rejoice in Senator Craig and 'the wide-legged stance' defense, you can read about it here. And you can read about Sen. Vitter's good works among ladies of the night here.
It's hard for me even to get worked up about this ridiculous proposal, since patent hypocrisy pretty much is its own punch line. As Steve Benen says, the GOP is getting desperate for issues on which they can take a stand. I suppose they might as well plant their pitifully tattered and faded flag on this as any of their other failed policies.
