by Damozel | Did you know that George W. Bush is still president? It's true. And it's probably about time we turn our thoughts to holding Bush & Co. accountable for something, or don't you think so?
Empty Wheel reports that Scott McClellan calls Rove a liar and Cheney an Oil Hungry War-Monger. The best thing about this title is that it still makes sense if you reverse the names 'Rove' and 'Cheney.' If you've been too distracted by the Obama-drama, it's an excellent recap of the hearing.
McClellan thinks that Cheney should testify before Congress about Plame-gate. (CNN) In fact, his testimony pretty much consists of statements mirroring the speculations of progressive bloggers at the time the whole mess was going down. He says that the White House ' has sought to avoid public scrutiny and accountability.' (CNN) Gee, you think?
CNN reports:
"The vice president has information that has not been shared publicly," McClellan said...."You could go down the list: Karl Rove, Ari Fleischer ..." McClellan added, referring to President Bush's former political adviser and first White House spokesman.
McClellan said he does not think the president knew in advance about the Plame Wilson leak.
Earlier, he told the committee that suspicion still surrounds Cheney's office because of unanswered questions about the leak.
McClellan also also said he could not rule out that Cheney had ordered his former chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, to leak Plame Wilson's identity. A later investigation showed that Libby, in fact, had been involved in the leaking of the CIA operative's name. (CNN)
There's lots more --- it's a pretty substantial article.
I am certain that more Bush insiders will emerge to tell their version of events. I am agog. I don't even mind that they will thereby rewarded for their role in creating George W. Bush's America, if only they will.
At the same time, it's not yet possible for me to view the insider view as expiation....partly because of the money, but not only for the money. But that doesn't matter. Step up, little minions, and tell us all. If it happens enough, the day may come when all, or some of them, can be held accountable.
Lots of blogger commentary from Memeorandum.
