Early this morning, Reuters reported:
"Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs, dirty words and the demise of humanity, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday. He was 71."
What a loss for all of us. Carlin was more than a comedian: he was a brilliant critic in all sorts of realms. A few days ago, my mother told me that Carlin was chosen to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center. At least he knew about the award before he died.
Condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Via Memeorandum, see Reuters' write ups here and here.

Hi Raw Dawg,
I never even saw him live, yet I'm sad about his death. My mother doesn't like foul language, but even she's sad.
It's just a sad day.

Carlin will definitely be missed. I remember his show on FOX in the 90's. It didn't last long, like Pryor, his sort of intelligent irreverence was not deemed appropriate for the small screen.
