by Damozel | You know, there was actually a time when I opposed impeachment of President Bush. My reasons were pragmatic: the impeachment of Bush would mean a Cheney presidency, or a Rice presidency, and I couldn't see how either would represent an improvement. I also had a concern about some sort of wag-the-dog reaction in the direction of Iran.
But never mind that: as my colleague, D Cupples, has pointed out, there's really a moral imperative to impeach Bush and Cheney. Dennis Kucinich has tried before to take steps against Bush and Cheney, though without getting a result. As we all know, most---though by no means all--- Congressional Dems are invertebrates.
Matthew Hay Brown at The Swamp comments:
Democratic House leaders have opposed impeaching Bush or Cheney as an unhelpful distraction. They were nearly embarrassed last year when Republicans voted to take up Kucinich's effort against Cheney in order to force a debate; they are unlikely to let the matter get so far this time.
Bob Fertik, president of Democrats.com, one of the groups pushing for impeachment congratulated Kucinich on his "historic leadership."
"We've waited seven years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died," Fertik said. "We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot."
Of course, Kucinich was not the only 'genuine patriot' to push for impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. A year ago, Kucinich presented articles of impeachment against Cheney. As Brad Friedman at The BradBlog explains, '[Kucinich's] Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney...were sent to the House Judiciary Committee, where they remain without action having been taken on them by the Dem leadership, despite best efforts by folks like Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), and others.'
Bob Fertik raises the real question.
"Some might question why Congressman Kucinich has done this now.....My question is why 434 other Congress Members have not done it before. Despite the uncountable and unspeakable crimes this administration has committed, George Bush and Dick Cheney remain in power and immune from prosecution. Congress must impeach Bush and Cheney now - before they further abuse their power by pardoning for all of their crimes." (The Brad Blog)

The dems should impeach the President if they CAN...
If the President is to be impeached then every Congressman that voted to give authorization to go into Iraq should also be impeached. They had ample time and numerous chances to review the same classified information that Bush had. Most refused to read the information and voted anyway. Those that did go in the room (You know the room, Cspan showed us those Congressmen going in and coming out of that room) and viewed the classified information also voted... The vote passed. 296 to 133 in the House and 77 to 23 in the Senate. This bill right here... http://www.c-span.org/resources/pdf/hjres114.pdf Gave the President the authorization and Congress has repeatedly funded this war... So BRING IT LIBTARDS.. I'll get what I want out of the deal... The complete clean slate sweap of our Government... After this bill is struck down by Pelosi because she has said she will not impeach him I say we all call for kucinich to be charged with treason...
