by D. Cupples | The Washington Post reports:
"The U.S. Military said it fired two Hellfire missiles just before 10 a.m. [yesterday] after spotting fighters in Sadr City with at least five rockets. Officials said another missile was fired a few minutes later at a black sedan near a rocket launch site.
"Ten people were killed and 22 wounded in Sadr City on Thursday and late Wednesday night, according to the Sadr office in the area, which did not specify how many people were killed in the airstrikes."
So far this month, 18 U.S. troops have died in Iraq. John Cole offers interesting commentary on the political implications of the war:
"War turns Republics into dictatorships. The logic is actually quite simple. The Constitution says that the Congress is responsible for declaring war. But in 2002 Congress turned that responsibility over to Bush, gutting the constitution and allowing the American Right to start referring to him not as president but as 'commander in chief' (that is a function of the civilian presidency, not a title.)
"So Congress abdicated to Bush. Bush has abdicated to the generals in the field.
"That is not a Republic. That is a military dictatorship achieved not by coup but by moral laziness." (John Cole)
