Posted by Damozel | Where, oh where, could they have gone? How could it be, for example, that computer experts can't locate any of Cheney emails from during the week during which the DoJ was investigating the Valerie Plame leak? (Talk Left) Yep, it's a puzzle all right.
In January, the House Oversight Committee estimated -- based on White House data -- that 473 days of White House emails from 2003-05 are missing. Reportedly, federal law requires the White House to preserve its emails.
Apparently, the Bush Administration decided that it had better cut back on expenses in the data-preservation line to make up for its expenditures elsewhere, because it is now saying that it had to destroy the hard drives of computer workstations when it replaced them.
Last week, the federal magistrate hearing a lawsuit brought by the National Security Archives gave the White House three days to explain why it shouldn't have to turn over those missing emails.
