There are at least two possible interpretations of Hillary's statements: one's not bad, and one's really bad.
Hillary's supporters are likely to interpret her message as something like (my words):
"Given that McCain has a lot of military and foreign-relations experience and Obama doesn't, I would be better able to fight McCain in November on national-security issues."
Obama's supporters are likely to interpret her message as an endorsement of McCain -- thus, making Hillary a traitor to the Democratic party.
Sen. Clinton should have been careful to use words that precluded the possible McCain-endorsement interpretation.
Though Hillary's policy advisers don't seem to have nearly the trouble that Obama's do, the advisers who help package Hillary's message have been falling asleep at the wheel.
