by Teh Nutroots | For once in my life, I got my wish: Huckabee's Iowa victory---though merely one small step for a man, even a man backed by the Lord---pretty much shows up all the predictions of the right wingers who hate him for what they were: wishful thinking and "worthless chatter." "Worthless chatter" is Glenn Greenwald's phrase, and at Salon, he's put up a list of self-serving statements by those who hoped that just by assuring the dittobrains who sail in them that Huck's defeat was a foregone conclusion, they'd force the prophecy to fulfill itself. I believe a similar incident occurred in the Old Testament regarding the priests of Baal.
This is not to say that I'm a fan of Huckabee: very much the reverse in fact. But I am very much a fan of watching Bush's enablers and sycophants reap the consequences of seven years of courting the votes of evangelical Christians and "values voters." Furthermore, I'm a fan of watching their "predictions" implode like wet balloons.
Here's Greenwald's list . And here's Greenwald quoting Joe Klein:
I love when this happens. It's a reminder that the political prattle that spews forth from group-think media stars without end and which consumes our political dialogue for a full year is based on absolutely nothing. Also, most predictive "analysis" from the media stars' cousins, the cogs in the right-wing noise machine, is merely self-absorbed wishful thinking masquerading as objective knowledge: (Joe Klein, Time, December 31, 2007)
I don't necessarily believe that Iowa will be the rule for the rest of the country with respect to Huckabee, but then again, who knows? Who knows? Only the Lord, my friends, and according to Huck, the Lord is in his corner. As for me, if I had to choose among the Republicans, Huckabee seems---though a long way from a good option---to be one of the lesser evils. So it's win/win, for me, for now. Later, maybe not.
But for now? Pardon me if I can't stop laughing.
Update: "Vodka Pundit" disses the entire population of Iowa in an open letter, beginning his rebuke by courteously promising to "put this in language even your tiny little Iowa brains can understand: What the f*** is wrong with you people?" and ending by sending his love to the "corn-sucking idiots." Probably it's what other, less vodka-based pundits would like to say as well. Ha!
And here's what one of Vodka Pundit's commenters had to say on a related post:
Republicans don't exist anymore. People running as Republicans are actually FDR Democrats, and the people calling themselves Democrats are actually communist socialists. Start building your bomb shelters now. President Huckabee or any Democrat guarantees another terrorist attack, probably a nuke. (commenting here)
Which confirms what Damozel is always saying: a lot of people belonging to the far right (as opposed to normal Republicans), for all their bravado and whoop-tee-doo fake hectoring of the left and "macho" swaggering are primarily driven by fear.
