Meanwhile, the Captain would like conservatives and interested others to know that the White House has been cleared of complicity in any cover-up, but conservatives need to jump on the "fear the unchained executive" bandwagon right about now (Memeorandum).
I'd say it's a bit premature to conclude that the White House has been cleared of anything, but I don't really care because we've had so many other instances of abuse by the Bush White House that this is just one more straw on the heap. Why should this be the straw that breaks the bull elephant's back? Well, according to the Captain, there's this:
Congress and the judiciary should act as the check against abuses of power of the CIA (and all other executive branch functions), and the CIA had no business destroying evidence that would allow for that kind of check, no matter how well-intentioned Rodriguez may have been.
If we endorse the removal of those checks, then we endorse an executive branch that can do whatever it pleases. Some may think that acceptable under current management, but if they do, they should consider the precedent left for people less acceptable to them elected to the White House. (Tape Destruction Decision Compartmentalized)
Oh, Captain Ed. There just are no words..... I'm letting others deal with this.
