Posted by D. Cupples | Michelle Malkin reports that Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) plans to unveil a "privileged resolution" today at 3 pm, calling for impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. I don't know what "privileged" means, because the resloution's text is already on Malkin's site.
I suspect that Malkin does not favor impeachment, because she referred to citizens who do as members of the "Nutroots Community." I'm not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound positive. Kucinich's press release states:
"On April 24, 2007, Kucinich introduced H. Res. 333, the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President. The first two charges focus on the Vice President’s successful effort to mislead the Congress and American public into a war against Iraq. The last charge focuses upon the Vice President’s determination to again mislead the Congress and American public into a war, this one against Iran.
“'H. Res. 333 has been before the House of Representatives for half a year and has 21 cosponsors. At the same time, the Vice President has escalated his belligerence towards Iran. Thus, I believe it is now urgent to move the impeachment resolution,' Kucinich concluded."
Supporting impeachment might benefit Republican politicians, whom much of the public despises due partly to association with the Bush Administration. Given that Dems can't secure enough Senate votes to pass a bill (BN-Politics), Cheney likely would not be convicted even if a House majority votes to impeach.
.
Impeachment seems like a win-win idea: R-politicians could redeem themselves in the public-opinion arena, and Ds could feel the satisfaction of officially voiced disapproval of Cheney's conduct.
