Posted by D. Cupples | Damozel just posted about the Democratic National Committee's slicing-nose-despite-face exclusion of Florida's Democrats from the 2008 primary. This was in response to the -- Republican Florida Legislature's moving Florida's primary date to January (ahead of some small states with far fewer registered Democrats than Florida has).
Gainesville Sun editor Ron Cunningham thought of a way for Florida Dems to protest (i.e., to flip off the DNC):
"In Minnesota they like to call themselves Farm-Democrats. It's a legacy from 1944, when the state Democratic Party merged with the Farmer-Labor Party...."
"The Florida Democratic Party doesn't have to merge with a 'protest party' to make its point. A simple name change would do the trick. How about the Florida Independent-Democratic Party?..."
"What are Howard Dean and the DNC doing, after all, but disenfranchising Florida Democrats? Why, it's downright unDemocratic."
