I caught Karl Rove (admiringly known as "Bush's Brain") on Sunday TV. Giving credit where it's due, he has a very nice voice! Since announcing his resignation, he's been using that very nice voice to bash presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The Washington Post's Dan Froomkin pointed out that journalists are busy intensely second-guessing Rove's motives. Does he see Hillary as a formidable opponent and want to "get his licks in early"? Is it reverse psychology (i.e, he's ignoring Edwards and Obama because he sees them as the real threats)?
Does it matter what's going on in "Bush's Brain's" brain?
Bush's approval ratings plummeted while Karl Rove was the White House political adviser. Bush alienated much of his base while Rove was the political adviser. Bush's party lost both houses of Congress while Rove was the party's go-to guy.
And Rove was the political adviser while the White House carefully misled this nation into a costly and disastrous war. Conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan described Rove's legacy this way:
"In a time of grave danger and war, Rove picked party over country. Such a choice was and remains despicable.
"Rove is one of the worst political strategists in recent times. He took a chance to realign the country and to unite it in a war - and threw it away in a binge of hate-filled niche campaigning, polarization and short-term expediency. His divisive politics and elevation of corrupt mediocrities to every branch of government has turned an entire generation off the conservative label. And rightly so."
Without a healthy dose of sodium pentothal coursing through his veins, can we believe anything Rove says?
Why not just let him waddle off into the sunset and forget about him?
