posted by Damozel | As a Democrat, I still can't make up my mind which candidate I'll be voting for in the primary elections; and since Florida is evidently going to be losing its delegates if nothing is done, it probably won't matter anyway (WaPo). But this is one thing I do know: if Elizabeth Edwards were running, I would be voting for Elizabeth.
So when Elizabeth through the Edwards campaign sends out an email in her name telling me to look at something, I look. "A lot of special moments happen out there on the campaign trail, as I travel across the country with John. I wanted to share one of them with you," said this letter.
And indeed this bit of footage explains why we need universal health care in this country. This woman has had to borrow over $50,000 to survive her double mastectomy. She's the mother of four children whose husband walked out on the family, and she survived by borrowing the money from her 401K. Remember, my little middle-class Main Street and gospel conservatives, this could be you or it could be your wife or daughter or even your husband or son! What're you going to do when the Reaper points at you and the doctor tells you that you don't have to go yet---or your child or spouse doesn't--- if you will just pay for the treatment? And if you have four kids in college, one salary, and nothing else but your retirement fund? Or if you already used up your retirement fund to pay for your kids' health care or college education?
Bear that in mind next time you're fretting over what the nice doctors and the helpful insurance companies will do if health care is ever reformed so that everyone in this rich nation can have it when they need it without having to bankrupt or sell their home to pay for it.
I haven't looked into the details of Edwards' health care plan or compared them to Hillary's, but I can assure any Democrat now running for President that the health care issue is going to be a major factor in my choice for 2008 (just so you know). And something tells me that I am going to prefer Edwards.'
