Posted by Nicholas | "Being lectured by the current House of Commons on the question of the funding of political campaigns is like being accused of having bad taste by Donald Trump, like being accused of slouching by the Hunchback of Notre Dame." George Galloway M.P., in the House of Commons, 23 July 2007.
Call him a maverick, or call him a popinjay, George Galloway is carving a niche for himself as, to put it kindly, a man with a singular approach to politics. I have no idea to what extent, if any, he was involved with the Saddam Hussein regime, and whether or not they passed cash to him. Some people seem to feel that he needs investigating, notably the US Senate. Galloway has testified before them at least once and gave as good as he got from them. He is vehemently opposed to the Iraq war and many people who disagree with him completely on other topics do support him there. It was on that platform that he was able to get himself elected to the Commons as the single MP from the Respect Party in 2005, though it has been suspected by many that he obtained political funding from Saddam. A House of Commons watchdog committee is, apparently, ready to take action against him. On this subject Galloway clashed with Mr. Speaker Martin several times for attacking the “good character” of other Members. Galloway’s little sally, quoted above, got him named by the Speaker, and ejected from the Chamber of the House, possibly for as long as eighteen days.
.
That's an hilarious quote by a very interesting politician.
