Posted by WMD | Christian Reconstructionism is a form of fundamentalism that argues for a re-writing of American history, dismantling secular democracy and constructing an America governed by "biblical law." (TruthOut)
.
The film “Jesus Camp” shows they plan to achieve this through the indoctrination of children. They have momentum and like-minded conservatives on the Supreme Court intend to move America closer to what progressives fear is a theocracy.
Despite the GOP slowly backing away from Bush they continue their strong alliance with this fundamentalist voting block. Three of the Republican candidates for president, Brownback, Huckabee and Tancredo, proudly admit they do not believe in evolution (CNN). They don't belive in science?
Meanwhile three others, McCain, Giuliani and Romney are cozying up with extreme right-wing by speaking at Pat Robertson’s bastion of fundamentalist ideology (and less an institution of higher education) Regents University (thinkprogress1). If that’s not enough to convince you of the bond they are solidifying with fundamentalists, note that recently Republicans spent an hour of taxpayer’s money on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives memorializing the late Jerry Falwell (thinkprogress2).
And when was the last time you heard any Republican calling for strengthening the dividing line between church and state?
Religion and faith serve important social needs but I'm sure a burqa will not be a good look for me.
Oh -- and let's not overlook the fact that, as long as we're talking about Jesus Camp, that one of the instructors sure sounded like she was advocating raising children to kill and be killed for Christianity -- if the Islamics are doing it, why shouldn't they??? SICK!
