[quote begins from Michael Graham, Radio Talk Host, Dear John....]
Has your heart been broken by a certain "straight-talking" politician? Did you vote for him to defend America in 2000, only to look up on CNN one day and see him arm-and-arm with Ted Kennedy, throwing our borders open to the very people who've been violating them?Did you get that sinking feeling in your stomach when you realized that, this man you once supported, wants to give immediate legal status to illegals like the three recently caught plotting the attack on American soldiers at Ft. Dix? Did you feel betrayed to discover that people who've been committing tax fraud and using our tax-funded services illegally will not be required to pay ANY back taxes, thanks to this back-stabbing, border-abandoning politician?
Well, I've had enough. I voted John McCain in 2000 in South Carolina. I announced my support for McCain on the air. But I'm through. And I just sent him a "Dear John" letter to let him know it's over between us...and why.
[quote ends]
He broke their hearts; now they're determined to break his. Wonkette has listed some of the poignant cris de coeur. You can read more of them at the site. Many are not disappointed, just very, very angry. (I wonder why they aren't also angry at the people actually employing all these people they're longing to round up and deport?)
Naturally, I'm really bothered by this (even though I admit it's also pretty hilarious), given that McCain was the only currently viable Republican candidate to take a principled stand on torture during the previous debate. It makes me think of a quote from Sinclair Lewis's Main Street: "The secret trails that lead to scared pocketbooks!"
