In a May 15th letter, Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) smacked Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez for blowing off a subpoena:
"You ignored the subpoena, did not come forward today, did not produce the documents and did not even offer an explanation for your noncompliance.”
The May 2nd subpoena and an April 25th letter required Gonzales to give the Senate Judiciary Committee (by May 15th) all emails relevant to the investigation into the fired U.S. Attorneys that were sent by, received by or copied to Presidential Advisor Karl Rove.
On May 16, DoJ responded by sending two copies of the same email, which contained a news article about the fired U.S. Attorneys.
