by Teh Nutroots | In other words, Palin's the clear choice for the GOP's next presidential candidate! The Politico reports:
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how many complaints have been filed because the state doesn’t keep count and the complaints are kept confidential by the attorney general’s office unless the state moves forward with a public accusation of wrongdoing. But in total there have been more than a dozen, and most of those have surfaced in the last seven months.....
As The Politico notes, there are aspects of the complaints that might at first blush seem mildly suspect.
[T]he complainants have a habit of notifying the media and bloggers each time they lodge a grievance. It’s evidence, say Palin’s defenders, that there is a clear political component to them.
But the complainants think otherwise:
Many of Palin's opponents have taken advantage of the low bar for filing and used it as a license to highlight their grievances with the governor.
“The number of complaints is a function of the misconduct of Governor Palin, Todd Palin and certain state workers,” said self-described government watchdog Andrée McLeod, who has filed four complaints alone. “Governor Palin constantly blurs the lines between her personal and political interests and the interests of Alaska and Alaskans. Alaskans are fed up and are finally doing something about it.” (The Politico; emphasis added)
I think the writers of the article mean "who alone has filed four complaints", not "who has filed four complaints alone." Clearly not. In any case, Andree McLeod, you go girl!
It's easy enough to believe the allegations after the wardrobe debacle during the McCain campaign -- which she might have single-handedly brought down in flames. I'd say it's hard to believe that the GOP would try to foist Palin off on the American people as a candidate if it were hard to believe that they'd foist Palin off on the American people as a candidate. But in this time of the Nutterdammerung, it ain't.
Anyway, they've got another pageant winnner waiting in the wings! Poor Gay Patriot says that left wing mockery of Carrie Prejean is causing her to become more popular than we could possibly imagine! He must imagine that our imaginations are pretty limited. Mine isn't, and I can easily envision her being crowned Queen of the GOP by the same old 26% that is causing the party's rapid decline.
To see just how far discourse on controversial social issues has declined in our culture, all you need do is watch a few liberals take on Carrie Prejean, the Miss California who likely loss the Miss USA pageant last month because she said she believed “marriage should be between a man and a woman.
She did not attack those who believe otherwise. She did not insult them. She did not call them names. She merely offered her opinion....Do they realize that most people who heard Miss Prejean speak, even the great majority of those who disagree with her, would appreciate the civility with which she expressed her opinion?
That's all right then. When civil liberties and civility go to the mat, civility -- especially from a beauty pageant contestant -- should always triumph.
Which proponents of the right would never, ever do.
BTW, I would like to know where these "liberal enclaves" are located, so I can go reside in one. I reckon that the GP thinks all liberals reside in New York City, San Francisco, and L.A., which is not the case.
In any case, I think there's a clear consensus: Carrie Prejean should be the next GOP vice-presidential candidate. She and Palin can be running mates!
But the GP has a point on the following and no mistake:
Progressives who preferred the sound of Obama's voice to the actual words are paying a price and deserve to pay it. If the GP and the GOP paid more attention to what he actually says rather than to the fact that he is a black (well, mixed race) Democrat, they wouldn't make the mistake that a lot of progressives made during the primaries of thinking he is also a progressive.
