Photo of Rockefeller building by yours truly. Feel free to alter and use it (or any other pics in this post), just link back to BN-Politics.

In July, I took my 15-year-old nephew to New York City.  It was like observing a different species.  Apparently, people his age crave energy drinks, sugar by the pound, and long showers -- and they can't take art museums for more than 15 minutes.  At least he liked the comedy club I got him into -- until the middle-aged comedienne discussed her teenage son's affinity for long showers.  I love NYC, despite the omnipresent scaffolding.  I just accept the city as in a constant state of renovation.  Below are a few of the photos from my trip (13 of them, to be precise).

.

1.   Grand Central & Met Life.  I booked the Hyatt next to Grand Central, so my nephew could easily find his way back if we got separated.  I won't stay in Midtown again due to the prevalence of chain restaurants.  Every night, we took a cab or the subway a fair distance to get real New York food.

.

.

.

2.  Top of the Empire State Building.  I took this from the building's observation deck.  My nephew actually liked this part of the tour.  Tip: to avoid lines, order the City Pass, which includes admission to some museums and a harbor tour.
.

3.  Chrysler Building. I took this photo from the Empire State Building.  Though my hotel window opened to the Chrysler Building, I couldn't see Chrysler's top from the Hyatt's 25th floor.

.

.

4.  Green-wood Cemetery (Brooklyn).  Beautiful grounds:  several ponds, impressive mausoleums, a view of Manhattan's skyline and Lady Liberty from Battle Hill (the highest point in Brooklyn, now a war memorial). People used to have picnics there. Info is here.

.

.

5.  Spider Man at Sony.  My nephew wanted to see Sony's Wonder Lab (a hands-on museum with free admission -- get reservations in advance).  Spider Man is at least 40 feet tall, spanning several floors.

.

.

.

.

6.  Flat Iron Building. This gem sits at the intersection of Broadway, 5th Avenue and 23rd Street.  Given that the building's rounded front is less than 8 feet wide, it's hard to get a good shot.  An overhead view would have been great.

.

.

.

7.  Washington Square Arch. This is in Washington Square Park (which is largely cement) and is at the beginning of 5th Avenue, if you're starting in the south.  Though owned by the city, it seems to be part of the NYU campus.  The arch was in When Harry Met Sally (and in a million other movies).

.

.

.

.

8.  Sardi's.  I didn't see a show during this trip, but I couldn't resist taking a shot of Saridi's (and the Helen Hayes Theater) after taking my nephew to the uncomfortably packed Times Square during our first night in town..

.

..

.
.

.

.

9.  Central Park. A little piece of it, anyway.

.

.

.

10.  Greywacke Arch. It's in Central Park.
.

.

.Littleitalystreet1

.

11.  Little Italy. It was a weekend street fair on Mulberry Street, where you get a view of the Empire State Building.  During my last trip (1999), I had dinner at Angelo's on Mulberry Street, where my step father would go with his father back in the '50s (or '60s).  Stop by Ferrara for mini pastries and coffee (on Grand Street off Mulberry).

.

.

Subway .

12. Subway.  Subways give me the sense of having an authentic local experience.  In Madrid and Paris, I prided myself on figuring out the metro within two days.  Of course, I wouldn't want to have to take the subway to work every day.

.

13.  Plaza Goes Condo.  The famous Plaza Hotel, near Central Park, is going condo. Prices start at $1.5 million, if you're interested. (See web site)

I would love to visit New York! First I'll have to save some more money... Great pics!
My TT gives you 13 quotes by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

These are wonderful pictures of my favorite city in the U.S. if not the world. Thanks for sharing these. I love the shot of Central Park, I remember it well.

Lucky nephew! I haven't been to NYC for 10 years, so it's time to go back again. Great pictures!

Nos. 4 and 10 are new to me all together. They are gorgeous. Thanks for the tour!

What great pictures! We haven't been since 2000...had the BEST dinner in Little Italy that trip! Maybe I'll scratch my whole "if I had a million dollars" TT and save it for a Plaza Condo...

The last time I was in New York was 1979! Nice pics.

Awesome shots! I haven't been to New York in years; this post makes me miss it.

Great pics...thanks so much for sharing. Id love to go there some day. Happy TT.

Thanks for the pictures. Last time I was there was 2000 and I still miss Little Italy. Your shot of the Chrysler Building is awesome. Thanks for the tour and I am sure your nephew will have many memories of the wonderful trip.

Did you really take these photos?? They are awesome. I think you should get dressed and start selling these photos - pronto! ;)

Great list!

You're making me homesick! Glad you enjoyed your trip so much. Cannoli at Ferrara's is definitely one of the highlights of any trip to NY.

Great photos!

I have never been to NYC - another one of those places that I have always wanted to see, but haven't made it to yet.

I live in Paris & imagine the atmosphere to be similar, only in English. ;)

never been to the US but I would love to visit NYC someday! =)

do visit my t13.. =)

New York is on my list of places to visit, and your pictures just make me more eager to go! Thanks for sharing.

Amazing NY City photos and delightful visit through a city I enjoy but have only visited twice so far. Maybe I'll plan a trip back soon?
Hugs and blessings,

They are all beautiful and now I'm missing home! I think I have a relative buried at Greenwood Cemetery. Happy TT

Beautiful pics! I've never been to New York, or even got close...not sure that I ever will. My sons would love to see Spidey though, so maybe someday. Happy TT!

Wonderful photos. I have never been to NYC, but the pictures definitely make me want to go!

Happy TT

There is something about subways that creeps me out, but I've been on them all over the world and you get a real feel for the local flavor.

Wow, these pictures make me want to visit even more! Happy TT!

Greenwood looks lovely!

The gates of the Greenwood Cemetery are absolutely stunning.

I'd love to visit there someday.

Wow, these are awesome! Thanks for sharing and happy TT!

Fabulous pictures! I love NYC in small doses. Three or four days at a time is all I can take of the frenetic pace. I love checking out all the amazing architecture.

Those are all such great places! How I would love to photograph them all. :D

Hey, I love the pics...the Flat Iron Building is so cool...Makes me miss NYC *sniff*

To answer your question, yes I did all the graphics...Thanks for the compliment:)

Those pictures are awesome - they are making me homesick!! I grew up in Connecticut in the 'burbs, and went into the city frequently.

Thanks for visiting, and happy TT!

Great pictures. I lived in NYC at the end of the 70's, a very wild and wonderful time. The pictures make me remember!

Yes, just in case I ever decide to get totally freaked out and fearful about peanut butter sticking to the roof of my mouth, I now know there is a name for it. haha.
Thanks for the comments! Your pictures are very lovely. I hope to see New York, finally, the next time I come visit my daughter in Maryland. She and I and my grandddaughter will be taking a train ride to NYC. I can't wait!

New York really is unique, isn't it? I've only been there once, and it was sort of a drive through visit. So, really I've never been there.

That cemetery is gorgeous! Wow!

Thanks for stopping by my T13 :-)

I grew up an hour from NYC and have yet to see some of those great places in person. Thanks for posting such great pics!

Love the photos! Hubby and I went last year and I loved the city! Washington Square Park was so peaceful. We went in December and things were quiet. I walked through Washington Square Park to get to Peanut Butter & Co. for my "Elvis sandwich." Mmmmm, the memories!

These bring back so many memories of quite a few vacations.

Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by my TT.
Love the pics, especially the Flat Iron Building, that is really interesting!

What gorgeous shots!!! We took the kids to NYC around this time 2 years ago ... they loved it, even the little one who had just turned 1. My son especially loved Sony Wonderlab. He saw these photos and asked when we were going again.
I did a stint where I was travelling there for work every couple of weeks and I couldn't get enough. I would go again in a heartbeat. Great TT!

Awesome pictures!! I remember the Spiderman from Sony...that was a cool place to visit :)

Great pictures! Thanks for visiting mine!

P.S. I tagged you!

I did a TT a couple of weeks ago about 13 places I visited in NYC.

Your TT was great and gave me some idea's, especially the Sony Museum.

Thanks a lot,
Maribeth

Great pictures - I love the Flatiron building. I went to NY when I was a young girl and I remember coming up out of Grand Central and just looking up in astonishment at all the buildings. (I'm from South Dakota - grain silos are usually the biggest thing around here!)

Wasn't the Graywacke Arch in a movie too? I swear, it looks familiar.

Enjoyed your pictures!

Great pictures. I really enjoyed looking at these.

NYC is such a fun place to visit. I loved it when I went! Great pics!

"until the middle-aged comedienne discussed her teenage son's affinity for long showers."

Classic!

I live in New York. It's a great place.

Wow,great photos of NYC. :) We used to go twice a year. I love NYC. Now we go about once a year to see theatre (of course).

Thank you for stopping by, and very kind of you to complement my banner. I like the feel of your place too.

Gorgeous! And what an amazing trip that must have been. Thanks for the peek.

Those are some great pictures!!
I have a 15 year old- so I know what you mean. What is the deal with the long showers?!

The Chrysler building at night... a perenial favorite. Great pics! I "heart" NYC.

e-Mom @ Chrysalis

Gorgeous pictures! I have *so* always wanted to visit.

My TT: http://maggiesmind.blogspot.com/2008/02/thursday-thirteen-2708.html

What a great portrait of New York! I really want to go there someday!

Great photos. It's been a very, very long time since I've been to NY.

Thanks for checking out my TT.

OK, I have to say that I've never been to NY and now you make me want to go so badly I could just spit! However, I want YOU as my tour guide! I don't take long showers, and don't crave energy drinks (unless you count coffee). I love art museums, but I DO eat sugar by the pound. I promise I wouldn't be much trouble.
